PAB02-001

40.5cm x 30.5cm
Medium:
Water colour on Bockingford 300gsm (140lb) Acid free paper.
Dated:
July 2004
Info:
This painting emphasises the environment of the endangered snow leopard through extreme poaching of this beautiful animal. I placed it on a small outcrop of rocks in the snow; the leopard appears by its stance ready to attack its prey, suggesting action, hence the title.

Info:
This scene was painted more of a study than trying to impart feeling or atmosphere into it. The group of two are close together kicking up dust and throwing it at something or somebody out of scene. Just by adding dust and razing the trunk of the large Elephant I have created action and therefore atmosphere.

Info:
I was commissioned to paint an Elephant scene, or a scene with Elephants in it. I wondered what it would be like to be out in the open vastness of the African plains with a storm approaching, no where to run and hide; just the vast open dusty grasslands. How unnerving it must be for wild life in this situation. With these thoughts in mind i placed a small group of three elephants including a young one tucked closely beside the large bull Elephant, all showing signs of unease at the approaching rain and thunder. The overall effect I think is very successful.
