Info:
Every body paints Eileen Donnan castle. Well here is my version; with just a little change in the scale of the surrounding hills the castle begins to dominate the scene which I feel is for the better it adds to the overall feeling of grandeur. The sky was very hard to capture with an ever changing scene of cloud structure, the outcome is i feel very good making for a good painting.

This scene is visible from Woodall Rd and now contains a lot of local history, as the fields to the right of the picture are in the process of being dug up and built upon by a famous supermarket company. When I was young my Friends and I played all over this area, because of this I just had to capture the loneliness' of the buildings which were at one time a hospital.

This painting was originally created from a photograph taken by my brother on one of his trips around Northumberland. When I saw this photo, I just had to paint it in my own style. The sky was a diffuse yellow with this curving band of a reddish cloud travelling across the scene. The ambient light had thrown the castle into a silhouette. I tried to convey a sense of peace and tranquillity displayed admirably in the choice of soft yet vibrant colours.

Your right! More trees in this scene, (Which I have to admit came entirely from my own imagination) Distance and atmosphere were created by the use of soft pale tones which gradually get stronger as the middle distance and fore ground come into play, Giving the overall impression of a peaceful and nice warm sunny day Somewhere on the shores of a Scottish lock.
